by Chris TrueFirst appearing on the Canadian pop charts in 1998 with the single "Rally'n," Jully Black (born Jully Ann Inderia Gordon in Toronto in November 1977) had a few false starts before getting some career consistency that would find her back on the charts in 2007. A songwriter who found her work being scooped up by a varied array of pop music luminaries, such as Destiny's Child and Nas, she also found herself sharing stages with an even more varied group, ranging from Usher to Bon Jovi to Jay-Z. After the success of her 1998 single, one would have expected her next move, a full-length debut, to come rather quickly, but the planned 2003 release of said debut, I Travelled, was delayed and then indefinitely shelved upon the demise of her label at MCA. That situation was -- somewhat -- rectified in 2005, when Universal Music Canada released her album This Is Me. The album failed to find a significant audience, yet Black soldiered on, releasing the well-received single "Seven Day Fool" in 2007. That single was followed by her second full-length, Revival, in October of the same year.
