There's no mistaking the distinctive nature of Monique's soulfully rich tone that has been likened to the likes of Mary J Blige, India Arie, Tracy Chapman and Alicia Keys.

Monique grew up around music lovers such as her soul/r’n’b DJ uncle, whilst being initiated to reggae music vibes daily in her Jamaican family home. It’s from these roots that her passion for music grew.

Singing along to the likes of Lauryn Hill's Miseducation in her bedroom, in her early teens Monique began taking part in local talent shows, often performing her own material as she extended her creativity to the songwriting process. Her older brother Errol Lawson supported in a management role, which helped to raise her profile through further performance opportunities whilst she grafted behind the scenes to develop her talent. Having her first professional studio recording experience at age 15 and supporting artists such as Lindon David Hall at the Hard Rock Café and American rapper Eric Sermon, her confidence grew and so did her love for music.

In 2011 Monique celebrated the release of her debut album ‘Unbroken’ produced by 5am’s Tony Bean. (Lemar, Beverley Knight, Nu Life, Usher, Kelly Rowland)

The album has received a warm reception from radio stations up and down the country with renowned soul DJ Colin Curtis showing support immediately for the fresh, soul stepping smash ‘Daughter Shine,’ which reached Number 1 in various soul charts Nationwide. The hit song was also play listed on Smooth Radio receiving love from listeners and DJs alike.
