We are The Big Sweet from Northeast Ohio. Our four members are high school seniors. We have a unique style of indie rock that blends post punk, power pop, baroque and experimental elements. Our sound draws from a wide range of influences including Television, Pavement, XTC and many others. We have played several important Ohio venues such as the Beachland Ballroom & Tavern, Musica, The Tangier and the House of Blues on numerous occasions. At these venues, we have played with many nationally touring acts such as the the Lemonheads, the Smithereens, Cracker, Josiah Wolf, and Will Hoge. In April 2010, we released our first full-length album, Shot of Bliss. The album received critical acclaim from several music publications. In addition, tracks from the album have received a great deal of airplay from local radio stations like 91.3 the Summit in Akron, CD 101 in Columbus and 92.3 in Cleveland. Also, the album’s closing track, “I’m Sold Out,” has been featured on the national television channel, Major League Baseball Network. We released our second album, Ultraviolet Rain in June 2011. The album has already garnered many highly positive reviews locally, regionally, and nationally (Cleveland Scene Magazine, When You Motor Away, Parasites and Sycophants, Absolute Powerpop) and has helped earn us a cover/feature stories in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Buzzbin Magazine, and the Canton Repository.
