详细介绍

Monday, February 22, 2010 7PM the place to be is the Doris Duke Theater at The Honolulu Academy of Arts, when The Makaha Sons celebrate 34 years as a vital component of that gem known as Hawai’i’an Music. Pioneers who continue to blaze new trails into the 21st Century, reinvigorating Hawai’i’an music with incomparable vocal arrangements, dynamic musicianship, and truly delightful stage presence.

America was celebrating its Bicentennial in 1976 when five performers calling themselves The Makaha Sons of Niihau began playing at a small nightclub called ‘Uptown Yokos.’ Through the decades the musical line up has seen changes, some necessitated by professional demands others by the untimely passing of two members of the band. Over time the group has become a trio consisting of Louis “Moon” Kauakahi on 6-string guitar, John Koko on upright acoustic bass and Jerome Koko on 12-string guitar.

The Makaha Sons have travelled the Globe sharing their love for these Islands performing in venues as prestigious as Carnegie Hall and for audiences including Presidents and Monarchs. They have received numerous awards but above all the love and devotion of their fans.

The Doris Duke Theater is a delightful venue, cozy & intimate, acoustically pleasing. Tickets for this memorable event are $30.00 with Academy members receiving a $5 discount. You can pick up tickets now at the main entrance of the Honolulu Academy of Arts Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For more information, call 532-8700. Parking: 1035 Kinau Street Lot: (Diamond Head of the Admiral Thomas building) This lot is closed to the public during regular museum hours but is open and free during evening and weekend hours until 11 pm.

Don’t pass up this opportunity to be a part of Hawai’i’an Music History and to enjoy one of the best musical groups ever. The Makaha Sons
