In comparison to other areas of London, the West hasn't exactly been the number one hot spot for talent. But if there was one MC out there at the moment who's on course to buck that trend, then look no further than Scru Face - aka Scrufizzer
The names originated from when Scru was aged just 13 years old, and whilst looking for something to call himself he thought the name Scru Face would help people identify him. After time passed on, Scru felt that he was out-growing the moniker, but with a whole heap of people already associating his sounds with the name he decided to alter it only slightly, becoming 'Scru Fizzer'. The name defined Scru better as an artist and even more so as a talented lyricist.
Scru's musical journey started from the young age of 13, where he proved to be blessed with a knack for producing with his own cutting-edge uniqueness and soon after found his productions spreading not only across his own area of West Ealing but all across the streets of London. By 15 Scru had progressed even further, now writing his own music whilst balancing the continued glory that came with producing, showing his varied taste in music with a spectrum of sounds such as Classical, Jazz, Garage, Funky, Grime, Drum and Base, Rock and much more in his catalogue.
Scru's musical spectrum stretches right from the early jazz days down to the modern era of Grime and Funky - perhaps this goes some way to explaining his varied list of influences, which include the likes of Big L, Aaliyah, Andree 3000, Biggie Smalls and Alicia Keys amongst others. An integral part of Scru's music is emotion and he tries hard to transfer a range of his feelings such as pain, confusion, anger and more into all of his work productively. His ability to shine in more than one genre is ever more apparent, with a new fresh and positive outlook towards music
Following the release of his first mix tape entitled 'My First Steps,' many started to recognize that Scru was fast on the rise to becoming one of the game's best spitters, with his vigorous and Skippy flows captivating listeners and gaining him favour across the urban underground and beyond, from the most popular grime sites to radio stations such as London’s Kiss FM and BBC 1Xtra (championed by everyone from Tim Westwood to DJ Cameo, Mista Jam to Target). The cutting-edge flows and lyricism also make his live shows spectacular, with acclaimed performances already under his belt with some of the scene’s top names, including D Double E, Skepta, Flirta D, Wiley and more, tearing down the crowd with his trademark "Shoi Shoi" bars. All of this combined has lead to a vast expansion to Scru’s ever-growing fanbase, all hungry for the next release. The mix tape's success led to Scru being labelled "Grime at its most versatile,” and the Stay Fizzy EP takes this to a whole new level.
