Born in the Bronx, New York Shhhean is a multi-talented musician. He is a rapper, singer, songwriter and producer. Shhhean’s unique sound weaves dance, house, pop and world music through hard-hitting hip-hop beats. When not creating his own personal style, he gets inspiration by listening to The Roots, Jay-Z, Nas and Common.Shhhean’s career began as a member of the hip-hop group, The Gentlemen, when he was just 13 years old. He developed his writing and recording talents under the guidance of Porter Carroll, the former drummer for the R&B band Atlantic Starr. The Gentlemen enjoyed success while performing at venues throughout New York City. One of the proudest moments for the young group was performing on the stage of the world-famous Apollo Theater in Harlem, NY.
In 2007 Shhhean began pursuing a solo career as a recording artist. During this time he continued writing and working with various artists around the country. His strong writing led him to a collaboration with artists Zenya Bashford and Dwayne “Ill Wayno” Shippy. This collaboration led to their songs being placed with major record labels. In 2011 Shhhean co-wrote “Burning Desire” with Bashford and Talib Kweli for Kweli’s newly formed group Idle Warship.Even with his successes as a songwriter, Shhhean decided to turn his focus back to performing. Recording songs with industry titans such as, Shaggy, Marcos Carnaval, and Chris Groove has just been the tip of the iceberg for this promising new talent.
Currently in production is Shhhean’s first complete solo album. It will feature his own personal flavor combined with a various mix of artists who will lend a taste of their own sound to the project. “Never give up,” this is Shhhean’s personal motto. That phrase is what has kept Shhhean focused on this exciting journey. It started with the loss of his father at an early age and has kept him on this path of self-realization and creative expression. Shhhean’s innovative musical talent will surely take hip-hop to its next phase of evolution.
