Carried Away is a Canadian Contemporary Christian musical group whose members are Tyler Seidenberg Pam Walker, and Christine Prankard.
History
Pam Walker and Colleen Walker are sisters who along with their cousin Christine Prankard form the group Carried Away. As a family, they have been singing together as long as anyone can remember. It wasn't until the year 2000 however, that they became "Carried Away". It was at that point that they heard the song "Carried Away" by Sonicflood. Listening to the song, the girls were inspired by Jeff Deyo as he sang the chorus with such passion and conviction, "I want to get Carried Away." The song immediately struck a chord in each of them. They decided to make a career out of singing.
Eventually they traveled to Nashville, TN and while they were there the girls had the opportunity to meet with producer Otto Price (Producer of BarlowGirl, Out of Eden, and GRITS). Shortly into their first conversation with Otto, the girls discovered a common theme. Otto Price just happened to be a co-writer of the Sonicflood song Carried Away.
The girls truly believe God gave them the name Carried Away to inspire others to hope for the day when we will be carried away into an eternity spent with God. After a time of being known as the two sisters and a cousin, the three girls took on Carried Away as their group name, group hope, and a powerful message to tell the world.
Otto Price agreed to produce Carried Away's first full release in 2005, titled "Closer to You" that included the song that inspired their name. Their recording of the song "Carried Away" featured Jeff Deyo of Sonicflood. The album had two number one hit singles in Canada in 2005-2006 and also won two GMA Canada Covenant Awards for 'Pop Contemporary Album Of The Year' and 'Song Of The Year' in 2005.[1]
Carried Away is currently busy on the road playing shows. Most recently they performed at the Women of Faith Conference in Calgary, Alberta for 8500 ladies. When they aren't performing, they're busy songwriting for their upcoming album, titled I Want You, which is scheduled to be released in 2007.
Canadian trio Carried Away snagged four nominations September 12, 2007 for GMA Canada’s 29th Annual Covenant Awards held October 26th in Calgary, Alberta. The group was nominated for Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year ("I Want You"), Song of the Year ("Mystery"), Seasonal Song of the Year ("Soaring Trough the Sky") and Group of the Year, alongside downhere, High Valley, Relient K and Starfield. [2] Carried Away won the Award for Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year for "I Want You" that was presented in Calgary, AB at the Covenant Awards ceremony [3] On June 20, 2008 Colleen decided to step out from Carried Away to pursue her dreams.
A brand new look at…CARRIED AWAY Sometimes the most unpredictable occurrences can result in the most rewarding artistic breakthroughs, which certainly applies to Canada’s favorite Christian pop exports Carried Away. After opening for the likes of Casting Crowns and Avalon, along with appearances at several Women of Faith conferences and Jump5’s prominent farewell tour, audiences across the globe have fallen in love with the spiritually centered threesome. While the group continues as a trio led by cousins Pam Walker and Christine Prankard, its freshest face just so happens to be a guy who’s a talented musician and seamless harmony vocalist named Tyler Seidenberg. “In June, Colleen came to us and said she really felt like her time in Carried Away was finished and God was calling her to move onto other dreams,” explains Pam of her sister’s departure. “At first it was quite a shock to us, but surprisingly, Christine and I had such a peace that we weren’t worried or concerned. God still had us involved in this ministry and we even went out as a twosome for a little while before we brought anyone else into the mix.” Perhaps that comfort was God’s way of confirming Carried Away’s calling, coupled with prospects of a new member popping up shortly thereafter the dynamic shift. Pam and Christine just so happened to attend the same home church as fellow Canadian native Tyler and they quickly became friends without even realizing one another’s musical backgrounds. But after hanging out at a handful of young adult prayer groups, not only were the girls’ pursuits revealed, but Tyler also divulged his background as a piano player, singer and songwriter with loads of studio and touring experience. “I've been playing piano since I was five, and I actually recorded a solo album with nine original songs when I was twelve years old.,” he recalls. “When I was a teenager, I performed with God Rocks on tour, which is basically like Veggie Tales but with a cast of rocks that play in a rock band promoting the message that ‘God Rocks.’ I performed in shows on stage for about three and a half years and also appeared on the Saturday morning series, which was part live and part cartoon. From there, I studied music courses on all ends of the spectrum at the Azusa Pacific University for about two years before returning to Toronto to take a recording course at a studio downtown.” Fellow early twenty-somethings Pam and Christine can relate to a homecoming of sorts after setting up shop in Nashville during their tenure on the Jump5 tour. Though both parties loved those music cities so to speak, each felt a pulling on their heartstrings to return home, which soon became a clear component of their God ordained paths.
