Sweet songs with a viscious edge, thats how Finn Silvers music can be described.Light as a feather Finn Silver is taking you along the deep cliffs of jazz and mysterious singer/songwriter melodies. Or as Jazzanova likes to say it: "wonderful jazz-pop-songs that are light on the ear, but full of fascinating details".
Producer/composer Mark Berman & lyricist/leadsinger Fridolijn van Poll started this project, looking for a way to combine their passions for songwriting, producing and performing. Along the way they managed to involve an exciting team of top musicians into the project, resulting in a unique Amsterdam-London-Berlin connection.
After hearing some first demo’s London-based drummer Richard Spaven(working with Jose James/Flying Lotus/Cinematic Orchestra & more) did not hesitate jump on board right away. Just like Dutch king of free jazz, upright bass player Ernst Glerum was down with this project immediately. More hiphop oriented bassplayer Glenn Gaddum Jr.(known from his work for Anouk) and Pianist Daan Herweg (Caro Emerald) were closely involved in the songwriting process, as was 22 year old rising saxophone-star from New York: Ben van Gelder. Electronic artists Mark Berman & Stefan Schmid (zuco103) give this record a unique electronic twist, leaving some muddy electronic footprints on the album.
After an intense ride of nearly two years of writing, composing, recording and producing Finn Silver finished its debut album Crossing the Rubicon early 2011. The album was recorded at the Jazzanova studios in Berlin, under supervision of Jazzanova producer Axel Reinemer. Crossing the Rubicon contains original songs only, combining the bands love for jazz, singer/songwriter, hip hop and electronic music into catchy songs.
On May 22nd, Finn Silver's debut album Crossing the Rubicon was officially released on their own label JAZZBERRY. The release was followed by overwhelmingly good response from press and media, high sales and an increasing demand for live shows.
Shortly after the albumrelease the editor of Itunes Japan heard about Finn Silver and fell in love with the music right away. Itunes Japan offered the band a major feature. On June 28th ROADTRIP became Single of the Week. Within a day the album steamed right up to the number 2 position in the Japanese jazz
