Maitreya (Sanskrit), Metteyya Maithree (Sinhala), Jampa (Tibetan) or (Vietnamese), is regarded as a future Buddha of this world in Buddhist eschatology. In some Buddhist literature, such as the Amitabha Sutra and the Lotus Sutra, he is referred to as Ajita Bodhisattva.
