Almost a year ago I was, once again, questioning why I was still playing music. I was playing in tiny clubs and pubs all over the UK and Europe to whoever would have me. Yet, as it always seems, at the very moment I am really contemplating giving up music altogether, something just pulls me back in. This time it was a European tour supporting Lou Rhodes and her band. I enjoyed the tour immensely. Their musicianship, camaraderie and creativity completely re-vitalised me. I was inspired – inspired by the musicians around me, inspired by the road and inspired by the whole experience.

Most of my new album ‘As The Sun Comes Up’ was written and shaped during that tour. I rediscovered my love for writing and performing songs and those feelings are channelled into the songs on the album. I can’t say why I love music – it’s ethereal – but, as with most things I love in my life, I can’t say why I love them either. I just do.

Both Jon Thorne (double bass) and Danny Keane (piano, cello & string arrangements) – who were playing in Lou’s band on that fateful tour – joined me in the studio to help me record the album. With the help of Che Albrighton on drums and with production by Ali Staton my debut solo album ‘As The Sun Comes Up’ is out now, through Strata Music. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did making it.
