The New Division is an electronic indie band formed in 2008 in Riverside, California. Founding members John Glenn Kunkel (vocals) and Michael Janz (synths, live programming) started experimenting with electronic music and live performances locally, later adding Brock Woolsey (guitars), Mark Michalski (synths), and Kenny Wells (Drums).Following the footsteps of acts such as New Order, Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode their sound blends 1980s synth/electro-pop with contemporary electronic dance music. Additional influences include Royksopp, Deadmau5, Cut Copy, and Massive Attack.August of 2009 viewed the release of their self-titled EP receiving local critical acclaim. While supporting the EP with several shows in Southern California, the band landed their greatest show yet with an opening spot for Elefant at the Glass House in Pomona. The following year The New Division went on to release “Art Kraft,” followed by the critically acclaimed "Starfield." Thanks to this tune, the band gained notice from numerous music bloggers and websites such as Pitchfork.
