David was born June 17, 1983 in Naverstad, Sweden into a musical family, and had a love for music from an early age. He started playing piano when he was 7 and began to record his own compositions ate age 15 with a Boss drum machine and a Roland D70 keyboard. Hooked, David eventually began to record on a software-based platform in 2002. David had diverse influences, ranging from Pat Methany Group to Hans Zimmer to Robert Wells.
He fell in love with Trance Music in 2002, listening to tracks like “binary finery”, “Ayla”, and ATB’s “9pm”. At the time, Trance had just emerged from the UK underground and established itself as a commercial genre, having had top 40 hits on the UK charts. Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, BT, Tiesto, ATB, and other influences shaped David’s early music.
By 2004 David had a dream of taking Trance into the Christian world of music. He wrote numerous tracks under his self-titled genre of “Worship Trance” though never releasing them to the general public. There was some opposition from family and friends at the time, as Trance, and Dance in general, was considered a very secular genre. It was questioned how it was considered Christian if it was instrumental to begin with. David believed it was the heart behind the music that mattered.
In 2008 David released his first album “Morning Rise” which was a milestone in his dream to bring Christian Electronic Dance Music (CEDM) to the world. With a very positive response from his peers, David went on a writing spree releasing “Morning Rise Europe” in Spring 2010 followed by “Heart of Trance” late 2010. Both projects were an attempt to include Breakbeats, House, and Progressive as well as Trance. Some of his peers did not like the new direction and sales slowed, but David was determined to fully incorporate multiple genres of Dance music into his music.
David was signed to Dream Records in 2011 and began working on “Morning Rise Eternal”. The label suggested adding remixes of other Christian artists to help create awareness of CEDM. David remixed several of his label mates including Press Play, which would eventually give him his first radio add “Three Little Words (David Thulin Remix)” by Press Play! Following the success of the remixed tracks, Dream Records commissioned a full remix album titled “Reconstruction” in 2013, and was able to negotiate permissions for remixes beyond the label’s own roster.
