From her roots in Portland, Jamaica to growing up in a single family home in downtown Toronto, PG (born Peta-Gaye Duff) learned early on the value of being ambitious and self-sufficient. And whether she is singing R&B, rapping, performing solo, with dancers or with her live band, that inner strength is what makes it so special.
Finding her voice in school and church choirs as a young lady, she juggled her time between music, work, and basketball. And even though she reached the heights of the sport on the championship Lady Saints basketball team, her abiding love of music soon became all-encompassing. Not that her energy and athleticism don't still come through, as anyone who saw her and her dancers perform at Manifesto 2009 can attest. That performance was a culmination of paying her dues through dozens of live shows at venues big and small over the last five years, including being the first performer to win the Rock Da Mic talent showdown three weeks straight.
As a graduate of the Remix Project, Toronto's own arts, cultural and life skills incubator, PG has acquired the tools necessary to navigate the minefield of the Canadian music business. And where many others have faltered, her talent, her drive, and her ambition will see her through to the other side.
PG's artistry and understanding of music has helped her star rise quickly, and her powerful vocals and impressive style can be heard on feature performances with the likes of Eric Flow Child and Rich Kid. 2011 promises to be the biggest year yet for PG, as she gets ready to release her debut EP entitled “The Elements of PG”. This mix of R&B and rap songs, along with the smoking hot video for the lead single "Lady" should ensure that the name PG will figure large in the Canadian Urban Music scene for years to come.
As the Lady herself says “I need to be surrounded by people as passionate and as dedicated as I am” which her entire team at Vital Dexterity Records takes as an enormous compliment.
