Twin Beds is the new album from The Rosie Taylor Project, which is due out on Oddbox Recordings in February. Harnessing the intensity of The National with the pop sensibility of Jens Lekman and the intelligent wordplay of Deathcab For Cutie, The Rosie Taylor Project have made a sophisticated record, full of heartfelt honesty and romance. Produced by Richard Formby (Wild Beasts, Herman Dune) and with a guest vocal appearance from Wild Beasts’ singer Tom Fleming, the band have honed their chamber pop sound to become the next in line of succession for widespread admiration.
The Rosie Taylor Project came together in a redbrick Victorian shambles in Leeds. A modest beginning, with practices spent squished into a small living room, things soon took on a more disciplined hue when, after a handful of gigs, they signed to Bad Sneakers Records. Shortly after a debut album 'This City Draws Maps' recorded with Richard Formby appeared kind words from the likes of Drowned in Sound and This Is Fake DIY. Singles lifted from this record featured regularly on MTV2 and benefitted from radio play on 6 Music, XFM, and KCRW in the US. In the meantime, live shows included appearances with Camera Obscura, Midlake, Jens Lekman and Jeffrey Lewis to name but a few. Marc Riley has also kindly hosted the band on his 6 Music show for a number of live sessions.
Having recently returned to the studio with the aforementioned invaluable Richard Formby, a second album Twin Beds emerged, and new single 'Sleep' was released in the summer 2011. 'Sleep' received air play from Huw Stephens on Radio 1, Steve Lamacq on Radio 2 as well as support from a number of 6 Music presenters.
The new album is a product of the current ‘depression era’, where everything in life feels like an obstacle. Consequently, there is a renewed appreciation of the day-to-day and a reeling in of ambition (thematically rather than sonically), featuring ordinary characters with simple stories. The principle agenda is honesty, exposing the truth and offering some insight. Expect melancholy, pop gems worthy of their influences but marking out sonic territory all their own.
Now mostly based in London, the band will be taking their show on the road early next year. They will be combining the cinematic with the musical with projections and different arrangements that will make the live gigs special, memorable events.
2012 will be a big year in many ways and The Rosie Taylor Project will be there to guide us through the twists and turns that life throws at us, with insightful lyrics, a gorgeous tune and a wry smile.
