DATO'S LAW states that wishes expand in direct proportion to the resources available for their gratification. With the world at her feet and unbounded creativity, the artist known simply as Wish is ready to make all her wishes come true through her unique flair, brash image and distinct music style that has already set her apart from her musical peers.
Hailing from Baltimore, Maryland, the gifted Wish was ushered into the world of music through church. At 7, Wish began to sing in the local church choir and it was there that she found her voice and the excitement that performing in front of a crowd brought her. Her devotion to the craft continued to bloom from that point in her life with various local performances at church, school and neighborhood events as well as talent and fashion shows.
With the vision of success in her sights, Wish made the move to New York City to pursue her swelling local musical career while working in the fashion industry as a designer and merchandiser. Together with longtime friend and songwriter Donny Roc, her first promotional album was created in 2009 titled “Skool Gurl Diaries”, which infused Wish's theatrical flair, raspy alto and urban creativity to produce songs such as H.A.T.E.L.O.V.E., If You Really Love Her, and her rendition of the Deniece Williams classic Silly, the 2009 edition. The internet and her fans quickly took notice with thousands of copies of Skool Gurl Diaries being downloaded and given away to a bevy of eager music lovers. The album is a memorable compilation of mesmerizing melodies, intense harmonies and vivid vocals. Having experienced herself the difficulties of being a young adolescent in Baltimore, Wish speaks to those who find it difficult to interpret and express their feelings. "There's nothing like the satisfaction you feel after saying how truly feel and owning it,” says Wish when reflecting on why this early work means so much to her. “Being comfortable in your own skin is important and people can tell if you're being fake, so I strive to always maintain who I am…no matter what."
2010 marked the beginning of a new chapter in the Wish saga with a new album, renewed vision and a solidified management partnership with Digiwaxx Media executives, CEO Corey "CL" Llewellyn and Kasey Woods as well as Answerman Management President, Erik Mendelson. Together with Wish's power house writing team in Donny Roc, Wish took to the studio with a feverish passion to birth her second piece of work that is yet to be titled. Wish's sophomore project is taking on a life of its own as it borrows from and maintains much of the energy and passion she has on and off the stage while kicking off with Motown inspired hit songs such as “Suga Daddy” as well as hip hop and pop infused tracks like the self-esteem anthem “I Look Good”. As a self-proclaimed advocate and spokesperson for female empowerment, confidence, and self-confidence, Wish encourages everyone to "Feel Ur Beat" (one of her recently leaked records) and to attack life with a in your face attitude no matter what adversities you may face. She's a prime example of persevering through opposition and naysayers and is making an impact in the lives of not only her fans, but herself as well.
November 2010 found Wish’s own wishes coming true as she signed a recording deal with legendary record label, Jive Records whose roster include superstar artists including Usher, Brittney Spears, Chris Brown and Ciara. Continuously fighting to maintain her own identity in a cookie cutter industry, Wish refuses to label her music style as one specific genre and is happy to be part of a label home that will foster the creativity and ingenuity that has gotten her thus far. Whether it's pop, R&B, hip-hop, alternative or even soul, Wish remains open minded and loves to experiment with different musical references and combines them all into her own signature sound.
