Signed to premiere Canadian independent label Curve Music with distribution through Sony Music, her career is on the rise, having already performed in front of thousands of fans, including the 2010 Canadian Country Music Awards “New Artist” showcase and at such iconic Toronto venues as the Horeshoe Tavern. Lindsay shares “I have been fortunate to have performed at many local venues, theatres and rodeos, and many of the legendary spots in Toronto such as the The Bovine and the Rivoli to name a few. I also played in Nashville, Tennessee on the Billy Block Show. Each and every show I play is a completely different experience whether it’s because of the crowd the venue or both; I think that’s why the thrill of performing so incredible to me. That feeling of excitement never gets old!”
Set to release her first self-titled debut album this year (2012), Lindsay’s musical sound is [self] described as “fun modern-country” with a twist of pop fused /funky rock. Her first single “Holdin’ On To You” is a truly relatable song, “about that one person in your life who always knows what to say to make even the worst situations feel like they’re miniscule. It’s about that person who gives you the strength and confidence to push forward and not give up, whatever it may be you’re struggling with,” describes Lindsay.
Lindsay is no stranger to composing and singing music, which has been her focus since she was 16 years of age. Her music writing abilities have led to opportunities for Lindsay to create and co-write songs with acclaimed international composers such as Kevin Savigar, Joel Feeney, Josh Osbourne and Trevor Rosen to name a few. Although honoured with the privilege to work with great music-industry veterans, Lindsay is keen on collaborating to create and mould the music and lyrics to be sung on her record. “I love working with other artists, but it is important to me to always participate in the writing process. I like to always have some of my personal flare, style and attachment to the songs I perform.” Lindsay is a versatile artist who composes music, sings, and plays a diverse array of musical instruments which include the trumpet, piano, guitar, and alto saxophone. Amongst all of her talents, when asked what secret power she would like, Lindsay would love to possess the ability to read people’s minds, or “the ability to dance,” she says laughing, “but I’ll work on that.”
The enchanting Brooklin, Ontario native continues to grow as a recording artist and musical composer by drawing inspiration for her songs from all walks of life, having written over 100 songs to date. Whether it is personal emotions, movies, dreams, or whatever the experience, Lindsay will pen a tune based on what she recognizes as a realistic situation relatable to others. “Many times, I’ve sat in my bedroom writing songs through all hours of the night, reflecting on my day” she explains. Lindsay humbly looks forward to the day when she is nominated for and/or the winner of a Canadian Country Music Award (CCMA). Developing as a composer and artist, while earning the recognition for her craft would be a dream come true for this dedicated solo artist. “My ideal vision of perfect happiness for myself is to be able to make a living at doing what I love most, which is playing and writing music. If I were able to travel all over the world to share my songs with people, I would be the happiest girl in the world.” Lindsay continues, “It’s also my dream to travel, see the world and experience different cultures too. From this I feel my growth as a person through experience will lead to greater, intimate songs which can stand the test of time like so many of my idols have previously written.”
When asked where her love for music began, Lindsay says happily, “I’ve always been a lover of music. I would write tons of poems and sing on my karaoke machine all day long when I was a child, but I didn’t begin composing and writing songs until I was about 16.” The musical talent admits to having a nerdy-side to her personality, listing video games as a favourite past time, in addition to playing with her two dogs, Hanna and Jack. Lindsay describes her fashion-style to be dynamic and sophisticated, yet stylish and fun. She confesses “I’ve always been a penny pincher given my upbringing, but I dream of one day over-spending on a massive closet and filling it with all the shoes and clothes that I’ve ever wanted.”
One fun fact about Lindsay is her previous day-job that initially helped fund her craft, which shows the commitment she has to her music, “I work as a Janitor to support my expensive music hobby. My music means a lot to me,” says Lindsay. She is inspired by her heroes Wynonna and Naomi Judd, who she feels create timeless music with extraordinary talent. Lindsay reflects, “I’ve always been very shy and introverted. It’s very hard for me to come out of my shell at times, but I’m slowly but surely working on myself in hopes that I’ll one day become the outgoing vivacious person I’ve always desired to be. Like the person I become when I am on stage, my music is a bit magical in that way to me.”
She is extremely passionate about her career in music, and would welcome the opportunity to give back and help others by supporting different charities. “I do plan to get involved with different charities like Sick Kids Hospital. They do amazing work there, and my brother and I were both patients as well, so it would be great to honour the incredible help they have given our family.”
Lindsay’s musical ambitions will continue to grow with time, as she works diligently on her craft. She is a motivated and determined young artist. With the backing of her record label coupled with her love for music, the sky is the limit for the up-and-coming musical prospect.
