San Francisco based producer/DJ Sam Kearns, known as PanoramaBeats ( via Arcata, California in Humboldt County) has been laying down his unique groove since the age of twelve when he connected MIDI cables from a keyboard to a computer and discovered drum machines. Originally a keyboardist, Kearns uncovered his gift early on. His sound is fresh and innovative combining gritty breaks with smooth drums beneath worldly samples and instruments. It is at once smooth, dark but light, spiritual, ambient in its delivery and laden with textures and feel. Classic yet unpredictable, his live mixes are laced with live glitch effects controlled via game controller. "For me it was about the thrill of new sounds and the risk of live performance. Being the medium that is making order out of chaos," said Kearns. While briefly living in LA, Panorama hooked up with local rappers and started a series of collaborations that would help him take his craft to other extremes. Being influenced by everything from hip hop, reggae, progressive rock, dub step, west coast bass music and beyond, Kearns has the unique ability to combine his influences and deliver a sound that pays homage. Currently in the studio working on a late 2012 release, PanoramaBeats is definitely one to stay tuned to.
