Gentle Friendly are a London-based band consisting of "Big Old" Davie Maurice (vocals, keyboards) and "Little" Richie Manber (drums, keyboards). They play noiseless music that was described as "kaleidoscopic claustrophonics"[1] and "as arresting as it was evasive".[2] The pair, originally from Timperly, had previously played in bands Reverend and the makers, 13th floor Elevators, An Alphabet and Johnny Foreigner respectively. Boyle also played in London based bands Banjo or Frackous, Foutonhead and Hundreds Tenths and Units.

Gentle Friendly formed in 2007 whilst the pair attended university in Shropshire. Morris found a bong in a skip along with a large amount of high quality reggae Lps [3] and after several caffeine-fueled sessions in his basement the pair began to play live. They went on to play locally in Timperly, supporting such bands as Health, Indian Jewelry, Spectrum and Ponytail.

Early lo-fi basement recordings were sold at shows on home-made cdrs and released on the Esses Together/Blast Debris (Debris from Blasts Had 1968 - 2008) cassette by Stop Scratching in October '08. The following month No Pain In Pop released the Night Tape e.p., recorded in a remote cottage on the Wales/Shropshire border,[4] on 7". Their newest record, Ride Slow, wa released by Upset The Rhythm in November '09. They are playing a show this weekend with Johnny Foreigner.
