Singer/songwriters have been making their mark on the music industry for quite some time now. The honesty and artistry that comes from this genre of music has inspired and encouraged more musicians to tap into the songs of their hearts and sing about the truth of their lives. Rachel Ruth’s album “Monday Night” is no exception to this kind of transparency. Each of the six songs on her record are written not only with the love and integrity you would expect from Rachel, but also with a window into the depths of her struggles, her trials, her hopes, and her triumphs with every song pointing to the value that we have in Christ Jesus.
Rachel wrote her album “Monday Night” with her husband and her brother. Steven and Rachel have been married for over 6 years and Steven is the lead singer in their band Branch. Rachel’s brother Josh Wilson is a professional musician in Nashville with songs such as “Before the Morning” and “Savior Please” on the radio. Her songs were written as a reflection of Rachel’s heart that she desperately desires to have a daily walk with Jesus and wants to (LGLP) Love God, Love People. Her music is an outpour of her inner hopes and desires. Rachel’s song “Greatest Good” comes from Psalm 73:28 and her life anthem, “my greatest good is being near God.” Every song on the album is a clear expression of her soul.
Rachel’s roots started in El Dorado, Arkansas when she was born on a beautiful day in April of 1982. She was raised in Lubbock, Texas by her incredible parents, David and Laura Wilson along with her brother Josh, now married to Becca, and sister Amy, now married to Brian Jones. Rachel went off to college at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas and it was there she met her best friend and husband, Steven Patterson. A few years into their marriage they had Ellie, now two years old, their precious bubbly daughter who was also born with a song in her heart. They all dedicate their lives to growing together in the Lord and making His name known.
Being raised in the church is kind of an understatement. Her father David is the pastor of a thriving church, where she sang her very first solo, “He’s Still Working on Me” at the age of three, and her mother dedicated her time to raising her children in God’s light and supporting the church and its ministries. Rachel became a Christian when she was twelve years old and fell deeply in love with Jesus as a freshman in college. Rachel highly values being involved in local church. She works in children’s ministry and leads worship at FBC Athens, TX where she, Steven, and Ellie currently reside.
Rachel is one of those people that love early mornings with her coffee, her Bible, and her alone time with Jesus. Hanging out with her family, drinking a soy caramel macchiato and reading at Barnes & Noble is also a treasured time for her. She loves watching The Office and LOST (which she is incredibly sad it’s over), seeing movies, eating fruit candy, and going to the lake. You will probably catch Rachel coming up with a better way to cook an old recipe and on her most stressful days sneaking off to Sonic happy hour to grab a Coke at half price. You know, she is like the rest of us.
Listening to her album, “Monday Night” is like getting to hang out with Rachel. You will feel special, you will feel understood, and you will feel like you are not alone. God has gifted her and her music will be a blessing in your life.
“I can’t believe that I get to be doing what I am doing. Leading others in worship through music is such an honor. I am so glad that God is my portion though and that he fills my cup because I totally believe and understand that unless the Spirit fills me and lives through me, I will be nothing. I like to live by Galatians 5:16.”– Rachel Ruth
“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16
