Keeping it strictly roots UK punk mobkings Strawberry Blondes like their rock 'n' roll super charged. Their songs are short, sharp, shocks of highly melodic punk rock bile, based on the rudiments thrown down by the classic first Clash album, or the against the grain conviction of the early Manics or the zeitgeist defining lyrical smarts of their beloved Rancid and Goldblade. Strawberry Blondes, slash 'n' burn two minute blasts of guitar driven punk rock 'n' roll, their mini anthems, should be top 30 missives. This is sheer pop perfection. Their heartfelt vocals and amphetamine rush of guitars are struck with a passion and fired with burning frustration. Turning their cynicism and world-weariness into highly charged angry pop is what the Blondes excel at.
Strawberry Blondes are the face of punk rock in the UK and have won over a ton of new friends playing with the likes of Rancid, Street Dogs, Bad Brains, The King Blues, The Unseen, The Aggrolites, The Briggs, Anti-Flag, Stiff Little Fingers, UK Subs, Goldblade, Buzzcocks and Millencolin to name a few - they even got the legendary Don Letts to remix one of their songs. More authentic than a fistful of incendiary rock 'n' roll albums, Strawberry Blondes will not go down without a fight. Few bands in Britain have their melodic power, their insane conviction and their confrontational guitar slashing passion.
While many bands fall victim to the dreaded 'difficult secong album', with Fight Back Strawberry Blondes deliver a barrage of prime rabble rousing anthems, featuring guest appearances by The Briggs Joey LaRocca and former Stubborn All-Stars frontman and New York city ska legend King Django. Fight Back shows that Strawberry Blondes like in the case of The Clash and The Specials before them, have a knack for writing songs that perfectly capture the mood of the time. These are songs that express the anger and frustration of living in the bleak and decaying cities of Britain, in a way that is culturally positive and is delivered with a passion and an indefinable feeling that's difficult to fake.
Newport punks Strawberry Blondes have been making a raucous, anthemic, street rat, punk rock racket for a few years now. Their new EP 'Nothin' Left To Lose' is the first release on their own label Streetcore Records and a co-release with Germany's finest punk label Wolverine Records. Hard touring has honed the band down into a vicious, supercharged core of righteous street fury that spills out of their Welsh valleys and sees the frustration of living on the wrong side of recession hit Britain spill over into their records. They manage to combine this with great melodies and a heartfelt passion that makes a connection with the grass of the punk scene. Nothin' Left To Lose, sees them crank their 21st century Clash template into the kind of intense bug eyed roar that would have done the youthful Joe Strummer proud. Strummer himself once paced the streets of their hometown of Newport when he was at Art College and it's obvious that some of his DNA still floats through the musical ether of the city.
Strawberry Blondes are children of that revolution; they remain angry, impassioned, smart and dangerous. This is a band that still believes that the guitar is a machine gun and that words are their weapons. They still believe a seven inch single can change the world and their purist vision of where The Clash and Rancid walk tall, makes complete sense as soon as the needle hits the groove.
Fired with a burning frustration, Strawberry Blondes re-invent the past and spit it into the future.
