Raatid One (Carl J Summers) was born and raised in Montreal and was suffering through depression and the lost of his uncle in Jamaica at the time hip-hop awoke to him. He began writing lyrics and came to his senses in the summer of 2007 when he wanted to pursue music. His first four album were under his previous name, though he decided to change it for easier searching. His new mixtape called Black Asia is a critique on the way East Asians perceive the connection between African and East Asian society and the concept of colonialism which still exists in remnants of their thought, as well as an ode to his own mix as he puts on a pedestal to represent community and internationalism.
