Jana Josephina is a singer, songwriter from Frankfurt via Mallorca, Paris, London, Zurich and New York. Jana’s songs could have come from any of these great cities, being a placeless sort of magisterial and melodic, icily infectious but emotionally engaging type of 21st century pop music.

With a voice that can be described as ‘oriental folk’, powerful yet frosted amongst infectious electro-pop synths; Jana wrote the melodies and lyrics herself for her upcoming album CONTRADICTIONS, while the music and production is courtesy of JOE CROSS who has worked with ZOOT WOMEN and successful Manchester duo HURTS.

The first single from the album is I KNOW, which with its synth sheen, tribal beats and surging, chanty chorus, feels like an instant hit. Other stand-out tracks on the album include AVALANCHE, THE GREATEST and DREAMDANCER, that are equally powerful and infectious.

"Most of them are about love and life”, she explains. “Life can be hard sometimes. You have to find a way to look at things positively. These songs are meant to give you hope”. Music is her life, but it’s by no means her only area of expertise, Jana is a single mum to her 9-year-old daughter and is an actress, too, having appeared for the last decade and a half in various theatre productions, movies and television shows in her native Germany.

So why, finally, did she title the album Contradictions?
“Because I want to be wild and I want to be tame, I want to take a I want to give, I’m an adult but I’m still very much a child,” she reveals. “It’s a very human thing, to be composed of extremes. I’m just being honest. That’s me – full of contradictions.”
