Since forming in 2004, Garage Hymnal has sought to provide churches with congregational worship music – music we can all sing – that draws on a rich tradition of hymns and scripture. ‘Take My Life’, Garage Hymnal’s debut album, hit the shelves in 2006. Since then, the band has released 3 albums, including the 'Unity' live congregational recordings of 2011. Recorded over three nights, it features the voices of 800 worshipers from many denominations. Songs from these albums are now being sung at churches across the world.
In 2012, Garage Hymnal released a 4 track EP aimed at personal devotion. The ‘Bird in a Winter Storm’ EP was recorded with the band’s long-standing producer and multiple-ARIA award winner David Nicholas (Sting, George, Delta Goodrem) on the NSW Central Coast, and mixed by Allen Salmon (Matt Redman, Starfield, Building 429) in Nashville.
Garage Hymnal has recently played at ONE Conference to a capacity filled Sydney Entertainment Centre, alongside preachers John Piper and John Lennox, Easterfest in Queensland (Australia’s largest gospel music festival), Blackstump music festival, the hugely popular KYCK conventions in the Blue Mountains, Twist Conference with Bob Kauflin, US music pastor of Sovereign Grace Church, plus a large number of unique worship nights at churches around Australia. The band is also privileged to visit churches throughout Australia to assist musicians in their approach to congregational music – a feature of the band’s schedule that sets it apart from many others.
