而也因为这个契机,让Corrinne May认识了民谣之母Carole King,并促成了Corrinne May得以与Carole King共同创作的机会,才有了「If You Didn’t Love Me」这首歌曲的产生。 INDIE INGENUE CORRINNE MAY FINDS SPIRIT AND SAFETY IN A CRAZY WORLD Ethereal Award-Winning L.A. Based Singer/Songwriter Follows Self-titled 2001 Debut, a hit in U.S. and Her Native Asia, With Soul-Stirring Adult Contemporary SetSafe In A Crazy World Debut featured track co-written with Carole King andCarole Bayer Sager Hit Video "Fly Away,"which Played On MTV AsiaWith the May release of Safe in a Crazy World , her second independent release on Pink Armchair Records, Corrinne May is getting ready to stir the spiritual longings and grab the heartstrings of her thousands of fans yet again. She's off to a flying start, performing at clubs and coffeehouses up and down the coast of California (from L.A. to San Francisco), traveling in a Ford Explorer with fellow singer/songwriter Aruna. Hot off her recent, fun-filled record release party at L.A. 's Molly Malone's, May is set to play New York 's famed cabaret The Encore on June 3. Born and raised in Singapore , educated at Berklee College of Music and making a huge splash these past few years on the L.A. indie pop/rock scene and beyond, May is truly a citizen of the world. Two continents specifically, as the spiritual minded, ethereal voiced artist's 2001 self-titled debut scored both in the U.S.-where she won the "New Folk Award" at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas-and later throughout her native Asia upon distribution deals in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and her home island of Singapore. In addition to a slate of originals which have earned her critical comparisons to Sarah McLachlan and Joni Mitchell, Corrinne May (later titled Fly Away for its Asian release) included the gorgeous piano ballad "If You Didn't Love Me," which she wrote with legendary songwriters Carole Bayer Sager and Carole King as part of her winning entry to a national songwriting competition on the music industry website Tonos.com. The song was also recorded by up and coming teen U.K. artist Zoe. While performing at famed L.A. clubs such Genghis Cohen and The Mint, The Bitter End and The Living Room in New York and Club Passim in Boston , May's music was also taking off overseas. Her video for "Fly Away" received significant airplay at MTV Asia. Her song "Journey" was featured on the Taiwanese drama Dolphin Bay Lovers and was covered by popular Asian singers Angela Zhang and Gigi Leung. May also recorded a cover of the classic hit "Close To You" for the Columbia Tri-Star movie So Close in 2003. Stateside, her music has been featured on Lifetime TV and in the daytime drama "One Life To Live." She received accolades from Harper's Bazaar, FHM, Music Connection and Performing Songwriter, which called her debut "a touching, enchanting record." Named Best Contemporary Album by the musical alliance, Just Plain Folks, the disc spent over a year at the top sellers list on CD Baby. While her debut featured mostly introspective songs that chronicled her years as a songwriting and film scoring major at Berklee-touching on the themes of loneliness, isolation, and finding her creative and spiritual purpose- Safe In A Crazy World reflects a more upbeat, optimistic and settled vibe. She's more established in her career, is content with her home in L.A. and is also celebrating her recent marriage. "With the first record, I was pouring out the emotions I felt at being in a new city , having to leave my family and friends in search of my calling," says May, who collaborated once again with Bayer Sager, on the beautiful and philosophical, "Everything In Its Time." "I was looking for answers and the album was born out of that introspection. The new collection is happier and more uplifting. There's more of a feeling of wanting to reach out and be involved with the world. My songwriting approach hasn't changed, however. My music is almost like an ongoing song journal, where I look at the world and respond to it." One review of May's debut declared "this is one of those CDs that reinforce my belief in a Higher Power," and the artist finds very clever ways to work her deep spiritual beliefs into the rich emotional tapestry of the ten songs (there is also a radio edit of "Free"). Speaking of her favorite tracks in a stream of conscious fashion, she says, "I start out with 'Little Superhero Girl,' which was actually inspired by the Powerpuff Girls cartoon. It's about the child in me, looking for an escape from the harder realities of the world… 'Free' leans towards my Christian-based beliefs, but in a subtle way that draws people in, rather than knocking them over the head. It's about planting a seed and letting it grow… 'Every Beat of My Heart' is about cherishing the present moment. Even if you're uncertain of where you are going, you will always remember today and it will stay alive in you. 'Angel in Disguise' is about the everyday blessed encounters with angels among us, a nd 'The Birthday Song' is a fun reminder of why you should celebrate rather than worry about getting old." May's journey began in Singapore , the former British colony at the cosmopolitan crossroads of East and West, where she studied classical piano and earned her degree in English Literature and Mass Communications at the National University of Singapore. She came to Berklee College of Music intent on a career behind the scenes in songwriting and film scoring, and she received her degree in the former (while finishing one semester short of the latter). While she was there, she discovered her true passion for blending writing and performing, and moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream in 1999. "As more people become aware of my music, my goal is to continue putting the abilities that were given to me to positive use," she says. "There are so many parts of my career that I have loved so far, but my favorite thing is when people come up to me and tell me my songs have made a difference in their lives. I take that same approach to my live performances, whether I'm playing for hundreds or a just a few folks in a coffeehouse," May adds. "It's all about touching one person at a time. You never know when someone will take one of my songs and be better for having heard it. The song I wrote with Carole, 'Everything In Its Time' reflects where I am right now, just enjoying the process, taking it one day at a time and appreciating every moment as the journey unfolds." And May's musical journey is indeed boundless... a fan from Paris , France eloquently summed it up recently in the guest book section of www.corrinnemay.com, " Les anges ont une voix maintenant . Merci." Translated it means "The angels now have a voice, thank you."
