It takes a long time for an independant label to get to a level where it can sustain itself. Captured Tracks are a label who have done the hard yards and are now on the other side. They’ve stayed true to their instincts (and the bands who have been with them from the start), and now they can finally expand their roster and enter new dimensions of the global music scene.

As a label that aims to build a roster, rather than just replicate it – it’s not surprising that relatively unknown New Jersey based duo, DONOVAN BLANC, are the labels latest signing. With one firm foot placed within fuzzy, catching hooks and the other in sundrenched Lo-Fi, this act have the potential to break themselves and the label into a new world of Pop.

Some, (unfortunately not us), may already know Donovan Blanc‘s Joseph Black and Raymond Schwab. Together they spent the years of 2011-2013 as full-blown pop junkies in a group called Honeydrum (CT released a compilation tape of theirs last year). Over this time, Black and Schwab somehow managed to push out nine EP’s from the third floor of a brick building in NJ under the Honeydrum name. These releases were packed full of pop melodies, buried within layers of distortion and fuzz.

In this age of internet based promotion/distribution for music – an act’s growth and development is thrust into the spotlight. And as happens for many young musicians, to move onto the next phase of their music, that act must break up and start again. In the past, maybe no one would notice, nor care – but now that everyone can follow your footsteps, it’s almost impossible to get away with this without making a little scene. This is exactly what happened for Donovan Blanc.
