Classically trained with an internationally diverse heritage Oscar Isaac is taking Hollywood by storm. Oscar is currently starring in world premiere production of Zoe Kazan’s play We Live Here, an incisive and beautifully rendered portrait of a contemporary family coming together through grief and celebration, at the Manhattan Theatre Club. He will soon begin filming The Bourne Legacy, this fourth installment of the Bourne franchise for Universal Pictures will be directed by Tony Gilroy and co-stars Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz.
His upcoming films include the FilmDistrict feature, Drive, opposite Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan, about a Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a wheelman and discovers that a contract has been put on him after a heist gone wrong, W.E., directed by Madonna and co-starring Abbie Cornish, a two-tiered romantic drama in which Oscar plays a Russian security guard who’s modern day affair with a married woman is juxtaposed with the story of King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, Cristiada, an independent historical drama about the Cristeros War co-starring Andy Garcia and Peter O’Toole, Walden Media’s Still I Rise, a drama about the current educational crisis in the U.S., opposite Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis, directed by Daniel Barnz, the independent ensemble feature Ten Year opposite Channing Tatum, Anthony Mackie, Justin Long, Kate Mara, Rosario Dawson, and Chris Pratt, the directorial debut from screenwriter, Jamie Linden (Dear John, We Are Marshall), reunites a group of friends ten years after their high school graduation (he also performs two songs for the film, one he wrote and the other a Bob Dylan cover), and Revenge for Jolly!, an independent comedy about two bumbling guys who seek revenge from robbers for the death of their dog, named “Jolly”, Kristen Wiig, Elijah Wood and Ryan Phillipe also star.
Most recently, Oscar was seen in the Warner Brothers feature Sucker Punch for director, Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300). The Alice in Wonderland-like tale centered on a girl who's wrongfully institutionalized and retreats into an alternative reality. The film co-starred Abbie Cornish, Emily Browning, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Carla Gugino and Jon Hamm. Oscar re-teamed with acclaimed director, Ridley Scott on Universal’s Robin Hood. The film also starred Academy Award winners Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, and William Hurt. Oscar took on the famed role of “King John” and went toe-to-toe with Crowe in the new take on the well-known story. In Agora, directed by Academy Award winner Alejandro Amenabar, from Universal Focus, Isaac stars opposite Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz. It is a tale of unrequited love set against the backdrop of ancient Egypt and questions the relationship between science and religion. Also, Isaac starred as Nobel Peace Prize winner, Jose Ramos Horta in Balibo. Based on the true story about the young revolutionary leader who befriended Roger East, an Australian journalist investigating the suspicious deaths of five of his fellow countrymen. He also co-starred in the Warner Brothers’ film Body of Lies directed by Ridley Scott, opposite Academy Award nominee Leonardo DiCaprio and Academy Award winner, Russell Crowe. Also, he was seen in Steven Soderbergh’s Che, with Benicio del Toro. Other film credits include Vadim Perelman’s The Life Before Her Eyes opposite Uma Thurman and Evan Rachel Wood. His first starring role was as “Shiv” opposite Paddy Considine and Radha Mitchell in the critically lauded PU-239 from HBO Films; a dark comedy about selling radioactive materials on the black market in post-Communist Moscow. The film was directed by Scott Z. Burns and premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2006 and aired on HBO in 2007. Isaac next wowed audiences with his performance as “Joseph” in New Line Cinema’s Christmas drama, The Nativity Story, which chronicled the arduous journey of Mary and Joseph, a miraculous pregnancy, and the history-defining birth of Jesus. It was the first film ever to premiere at the Vatican. The film was directed by Catherine Hardwicke and co-starred Academy Award nominees, Keisha Castle-Hughes and Shohreh Aghdashloo. He has guest-starred on NBC-TV’s “Law and Order: Criminal Intent”.
Isaac garnered superb reviews playing the title role in Romeo and Juliet with Lauren Ambrose, directed by Michael Greif and in the musical revival of Two Gentlemen of Verona adapted by John Guare and Mel Shapiro both productions for the NY Public Theatre’s Shakespeare in the Park program. He starred in Beauty of the Father by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Nilo Cruz, directed by Michael Greif at Manhattan Theatre Club. Isaac was last seen in MCC Theater’s American premiere of Mick Gordon and A.C. Graylings’ Grace with Lynn Redgrave.
Other theatre credits include: "Arrivals and Departures," "When It’s Cocktail Time in Cuba," and "Spinning into Butter". While a student at Juilliard, Oscar played the title role in Macbeth; he also co-wrote and performed his own music in the show, American Occupation; and was seen in The Marriage of Figaro; The Birds; Three Sisters; and many others. He also attended Master Classes with such actors as Sir Ian McKellen, Fiona Shaw, Simon Russell Beale, Brenda Blethyn, Alfred Molina and was the recipient of the prestigious Princess Grace Award in 2004.
Oscar also writes and performs music with his band, NightLab. He was raised in Miami and currently resides in New York.
