Settled in unconscious control, Shorai’s voice is sometimes seductive, sometimes tough, sometimes playful. Born in Zimbabwe and raised in Minneapolis, Shorai has been performing in front of audiences since the age of nine. Today, she is a regular at the nationally renowned Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis along with keeping a performance schedule of 100 dates a year in and around the Twin Cities. A classically trained pianist, Shorai began exploring the world of jazz in her early teens, learning vocalese from her trumpet-player father. Along with her unique jazz interpretations, she has achieved national recognition for lending her voice to many television commercials, most notably Target’s inaugural “Hello Goodbye” campaign, as well as major motion pictures and several TV series. Fans have vocally compared her to Brandi Carlile, Inara George, Regina Spektor, Norah Jones and Eva Cassidy. Although, most cannot fully describe the distinctiveness and charm of Shorai’s phrasing and sound.
